MMP has the best turbo bang for your buck for your N54, TD04 turbos with 43mm compressor wheel and 43mm turbine wheels (twin 4343’s) with true TD04 native compressor housing. These turbos are capable of 700whp max on the N54 and at this price its a bargain and they bolt right up to your N54.  The 43mm compressor wheel is a forged billet wheel with extended tip technology from BorgWarner and with 11 blades made in the GTX style. The Turbo consist of a Custom TD04 bearing housing designed to connect to stock oil lines, coolant lines and original proprietary stainless steel turbine housings and manifolds connected to the housing.  These are the ONLY turbos at this price point where you get high performance stainless steel high flow manifolds and turbine housings.  All the other competition uses modified stock manifolds or stock manifold replicas and modified stock compressor housings that are made to flow tiny stock turbos with tiny stock inducers the size of a half dollar literarily (stock turbos are 35mm). The connection size to the turbo is 1.75”, upgraded inlets are HIGHLY recommended but you could run the stock inlets but it has been proven many times on the dyno by the BMW community that the stock inlets are limited to about 500whp and they put a ton of strain on the turbo and can cause premature failure of the turbos, so hence we don’t recommend it at all.  But if you upgraded your inlets previously on stock turbos, then they will work perfectly on these turbos.  ALL PARTS of this turbo are brand new, nothing is reused from the stock turbos like our completion does.  Because of this, everything from the bearings to the shaft size to the wheels to the housings have been custom engineered and designed to work together for the best in performance and reliability and a very cost effective package and bolt on solution for your N54.

MMP outlets are required or other 2” outlets, stock outlets do not work.  Outlets are the pipe that connects the turbo outlet to the intercooler.  Inlet is the pipe that connects the filters to the turbo inlet.

Compressor wheel is 43mm inducer 11 blade.  Turbine wheel is 43mm exducer 9 blade GT28 base wheel design for performance and reliability.

The turbos are made from a full native TD04 bearing housing with upgraded TD04 thrust bearings which include double the surface area for the stock TD03 thrust bearings (that's 100% more) than the stock bearing system.  Other popular hybrid turbo manufacturers use a stock TD03 bearing housing with TD03 journal and thrust bearing components and smaller TD03 shaft size and just cram much larger turbine and compressor wheels in stock compressor housings and stock bearing housings never meant for the small TD03 shaft size and small TD03 journal and thrust bearing components.  This can lead to shafts breaking and premature wear of the thrust bearing causing smoking issues on the turbos.  All these issues that give hybrid turbos a bad name on the N54 due to improper design has been solved in the brand new TD04 bearing housings from MMP.  The MMP design uses a thrust plate with 2 oiling ports vs one in the standard thrust plate and also the thrust washer and collar have 2x the surface area of the TD03 components, this is why they are MUCH more reliable then those other offerings.  These great upgraded and reliable thrust components for 30psi are included standard with no extra charge in all MMP turbos.

If you are wondering what you can achieve with your setup (I get this question all the time, here is what you should know.  You will basically be limited by your fuel flow setup, more whp requires more fuel flow and also more octane when going over 550whp

  • On 93 octane with the stock fuel system it will support 400whp 
  • with a Stage 1 Low Pressure Fuel Pump (LPFP) 255 inline and 93oct you can make 470whp
  • With a stage 2 LPFP and 93 octane it can support 530whp
  • With a stage Stage 2 LPFP (walbro 450) and E50 (50% ethanol and 50% 93 oct) fuel mix you can make 650whp
  • With Stage 3 LPFP and Port Injection it can support 700whp maxed out
  • With meth it depends on how much meth you are spraying as you start to rely on it for fuel but you could make any other numbers above including close to 700whp with meth depending on how much meth you spray and your tuning
  • any other fuel mixes or fuel system setups, I dont know so please dont ask

they fit All Wheel Drive (AWD, X series) and Rear Wheel Drive (RWD) just like stock turbos, they even fit Right Hand Drive (RHD) but need outlets customized. They fit ANY N54 motor in ANY series car. This includes:

  • 2007–2010 E60/E61 535i

  • 2008–2010 E71 X6 xDrive35i
  • 2009–2016 E89 Z4 sDrive35i

  • *will fit on RHD but required outlets will require significant modification to work.

For 1 series / 5 series / Z series / or RHD, you will need to buy an upper rear coolant line from the 3 series in order for the rear turbo to fit, everything else will fit just fine. Except RHD will need to make modifications to the outlets to fit around the steering column, that is covered in a bullet point below
